A response to the charism with dynamism and prophecy - IV Seminar

The Scalabrinian charism, a gift of the Spirit to Blessed John the Baptist, was, in its time, a prophetic response to the needs of those who were migrating. The past, therefore, contains, as it were, “the root of the Scalabrinian tree”, a tree that today spreads its branches and bears fruit in many countries, for the “different faces of migration, as a sign of the times”, since the same type of urgency persists in history until our own day.

Producing fruit is the challenge and “honor of the apostolate”, since the specific mission makes us those who form the caravan of today's exoduses. The apostolate needs to be imbued with a religious spirit, with “vital union with Jesus Christ being the essential condition for apostolic fruitfulness” (NC.n.100 and 101). Therefore, we need to know and feel - at least once in a while - that we are the object of God's love. We need to believe that he continues to repeat to us with tireless love: “I love you”. And this every hour, every day and for all eternity. This theological truth was underlined by Benedict XVI in his Encyclical “Deus Caritas Est”. It invites us to drink from the fountain of love (DCE n.8), so that we can put it into practice in gestures, the essence of our mission among the sons and daughters of God in mobility.
