Based on CONARE data for the period between January 2010 and October 2014, the UNHCR has drawn up a statistical analysis that demonstrates the continued strengthening of protection for refugees and asylum seekers in Brazil. The total number of refugee applications increased by more than 930% between 2010 and 2013 (from 566 to 5,882 applications). By October 2014, a further 8,302 applications had already been registered. Most asylum seekers come from Africa, Asia (including the Middle East) and South America.
