The evolution of G.B. Scalabrini's thinking was due to his concern about the glaring reality in his diocese and throughout Italy, which he saw above all during his pastoral visits. From this, he began to see a Church that had to be welcoming and change its dynamic of action. The Gospel would become his norm of conduct. The Church's apostolic service could not turn a blind eye to the reality of millions of people forced to migrate for lack of bread. This is the core of Scalabrinian ecclesiology: seeing humanity in its complexity and the Church being able to respond to it.
