Palermo, June 20, 2016 - Around 3,200 migrants were brought to safety on the day of the event in the course of 25 rescue operations coordinated by the Centrale Operativa della Guardia Costiera a Roma del Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei trasporti. A lifeless body was also recovered.

The operations involved the Margottini, Borsini and Grecale ships from the Military Marina, the Enterprise and Reina Sophia ships, part of the EUNavforMed device, the LE James Joyce ship from the Irish Military Marina, the Bourbon Argos ship from the NGO MOAS, the Topaz Responder ship from the NGO Medici senza Frontiere, the Sea Watch 2 ship from the NGO and a private rimorchiatore.
