Rescatar la esperanza como ejercicio ciudadano

The powerful narrative about the stories of migrants and their families during the migratory processes in the Central America-Mexico-United States region, in five chapters, reveals from different perspectives, the anguishing journeys of families living with the disappearance of loved ones while facing the Mexican route.

Beyond the terrible circumstances, these families have managed to overcome pain and uncertainty, becoming agents of change. They found a new meaning to the duality between pain and hope, demanding justice, truth and the cessation of disappearances on the migratory routes that persist today.

The narrative also highlights the valiant work of pastoral workers, human rights defenders and migrants who, as witnesses and victims, denounce the atrocities that took place during the seizure and disappearance of migrants.

The movement of these defenders led to denunciations before the Mexican government, despite the initial denial of the events, which resulted in the criminalization of migrants and their rights. With the resistance of these groups, the work in the network grew stronger and the issue gained more and more international repercussions.

The book also shows how the negligence of the Mexican government was a huge mistake that led to the toleration of crime, impunity and cruelty. This set a precedent that continues to affect the country today. Although at that time there were a small number of people and organizations committed to defending the rights of migrants, the government persisted in denying and minimizing the crimes committed.

The same situation occurred in Honduras, as Rosa Nelly's testimony documents. The relatives of disappeared migrants have had to fight tirelessly to be heard, forming collectives and developing their own search and documentation strategies. Even in the face of difficulties, these families have crossed geographical borders, seeking justice and national, regional and international visibility.

Es fundamental resaltar que, si bien transformaron su dolor en lucha, eso no significa que lo hayan olvidado. El libro destaca la importancia  del acompañamiento en salud mental y estrategias para deconstruir los estigmas en relación a las desapariciones de migrantes.

The absence of missing persons deeply affects families, especially children and teenagers. The hope of finding them alive is a constant that prevents many families from finding the closure they need to heal their wounds.

Through their collective actions, the Committees of Relatives of Disappeared Migrants have challenged government policies and promoted the creation of transnational mechanisms for seeking justice. Their demands include the accountability of states in relation to the disappearances and massacres documented in the 21st century. However, despite their tireless efforts, they have not yet received the justice they seek.

The book also highlights the importance of strengthening the demand for a Truth Commission and a Special Commission for the Investigation of Masacres and Disappearances of Migrant Persons. These commissions are essential for achieving the justice and answers that families so desperately want, and for these crimes against humanity to finally cease.

A poderosa narrativa sobre as histórias de pessoas e suas famílias durante os processos migratórios na região México-Centroamérica-Estados Unidos em quatro capítulos, revelam sob diferentes perspectivas, as angustiantes jornadas das famílias que viram seus entes queridos desaparecerem ao cruzar a rota mexicana.

Apesar destas circunstâncias terríveis, essas famílias conseguiram transcender a dor e a incerteza, transformando-se em agentes de mudança. Elas deram novo significado à dualidade entre dor e esperança, exigindo justiça, verdade e a cessação dos desaparecimentos em rotas migratórias que persistem até os dias de hoje.

A narrativa também destaca o trabalho corajoso de agentes pastorais, defensores dos direitos humanos e migrantes que, como testemunhas e vítimas, denunciaram as atrocidades que ocorreram durante o cativeiro e o desaparecimento de migrantes no México.

A mobilização desses defensores levou à denúncias junto ao governo mexicano, apesar da negação inicial dos fatos, que resultou na criminalização dos migrantes e de suas defesas. A resistência desses grupos despertou a necessidade de uma abordagem em rede para tornar a situação internacionalmente visível.

O livro também aponta como a negação por parte do governo mexicano foi um erro crasso que levou à tolerância ao crime, à impunidade e à crueldade. Isso estabeleceu um precedente que continua a afetar o país nos dias de hoje. Embora tenha havido um pequeno número de pessoas e organizações engajadas na defesa dos direitos dos migrantes na época, o governo persistiu em negar e minimizar os crimes cometidos.

A mesma negação ocorreu em Honduras, conforme documentado no testemunho de Rosa Nelly. As famílias de migrantes desaparecidos tiveram que lutar incansavelmente para serem ouvidas, formando coletivos e desenvolvendo suas próprias estratégias de busca e documentação. Mesmo diante das dificuldades, essas famílias foram além das fronteiras geográficas, buscando justiça e visibilidade nacional, regional e internacional.

Apesar do avanço coletivo, as famílias ainda não alcançaram a verdade, a justiça e a garantia de que tais atrocidades não se repetirão. É fundamental destacar que, embora tenham transformado sua dor em luta, isso não significa que tenham esquecido. O livro ressalta a necessidade de apoio em saúde mental e estratégias para desconstruir estigmas em relação aos desaparecimentos de migrantes.

A ausência das pessoas desaparecidas afeta profundamente as famílias, especialmente as crianças e adolescentes. A esperança de reencontrá-las vivas é uma constante, impedindo muitas famílias de encontrar o fechamento necessário para curar suas feridas.

Por meio de suas ações coletivas, os Coletivos de Familiares Desaparecidos têm desafiado as políticas governamentais e promovido a criação de mecanismos transnacionais de busca e justiça. Suas exigências incluem a prestação de contas por parte dos Estados em relação aos desaparecimentos e aos massacres documentados no século XXI. No entanto, apesar de seus esforços incansáveis, ainda não obtiveram a justiça que buscam.

O livro também destaca a importância de fortalecer a exigência de uma Comissão da Verdade e uma Comissão Especial para a Investigação de Massacres e Desaparecimentos de Pessoas Migrantes. Essas comissões são fundamentais para alcançar a justiça e as respostas que as famílias tanto anseiam, e para que esses crimes contra a humanidade finalmente cessem.
