White January and the Mental Health of Migrant and Refugee Children

Did you know that, according to the UNHCR, almost half of all refugees in the world are children? In 2023, some 43.3 million children were forced to migrate due to conflicts, climate change and other crises. This displacement poses numerous challenges for their mental health, exacerbated by factors such as:

🔸 Family separation
🔸 Exposure to violence
🔸 Forced cultural adaptation

The emotional vulnerability of these children is not only a consequence of the traumas of origin, but also of the barriers faced in the countries of destination. Many grow up without adequate access to education, mental health and community support.

This is why White January is an essential time to talk about the importance of psychological care, especially for migrant and refugee children. It is essential that governments and civil society ensure this:

Inclusive integration policies
Specialized psychological support
Preserved education and family structure

May we look back in 2025 and see real progress in the fight for children's mental health on the move. Let's build a more welcoming and empathetic future for them together. 💜
