Project works to promote the reception of Venezuelan migrants and refugees in Brazil
From the collection of the Fraternity Campaign, held on Palm Sunday (March 25) last year, the National Solidarity Fund (FNS) of the National Conference of the Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) was able to raise more than six million reais, which were then invested in 179 projects by different community organizations across the country, including the “Paths of Solidarity: Brazil and Venezuela” project. This initiative came about in the diocese of Roraima through the diocesan Caritas, together with the CNBB and other organizations that saw the need for action in response to the humanitarian crisis that the state is going through, due to the arrival of Venezuelans in vulnerable situations.
Paths of Solidarity also aims to reach dozens of archdioceses/dioceses across the country that are willing to welcome migrants and refugees, working for their protection, promotion and integration through housing, food, Portuguese classes, support in entering the job market, etc. Welcoming depends on the initiative of groups, communities, parishes and leaders who can collaborate to continue promoting integration actions to provide dignified care for these people.
Those interested in taking part should register via the website www.caminhosdesolidariedade.org.br and talk to the project coordinator, who is based at Cáritas in Boa Vista. Requirements, difficulties and proposals are discussed on a case-by-case basis, based on the possibilities of the host and the concrete reality of those seeking shelter.
The Scalabrinian Center for Migration Studies supports the project and reinforces the need and importance of actions in solidarity with migrants and refugees. Solidarity and welcome enable people fleeing conflict or need to slowly rebuild their lives in our country.
