ASCALA: 20 years changing lives

The Scalabrinian Association for the Service of Human Mobility (ASCALA) is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of migrants and vulnerable communities in the Dominican Republic. Founded on October 1, 2004, ASCALA works tirelessly to promote the integration, development and empowerment of people in situations of displacement.

Through social and legal programs, ASCALA has assisted thousands of people in more than 60 communities over the last year, providing support in areas such as health, education and access to justice. Its team of professionals and promoters works closely with public and private institutions to respond to the most urgent needs, especially in emergency situations.

María de los Ángeles Chirino Ramos (Marielo), a volunteer at ASCALA for more than 10 years, describes the organization as a "recovered homeland" for migrants, where they find respect, dignity and a sense of belonging. Her testimony reflects the profound impact that ASCALA has on people's lives. "ASCALA makes everyone feel that they are standing on firm ground - isn't this wonderful in the Dominican context of so much discrimination and hatred towards Haitians? Thanks sisters and the team, thanks also for letting me do it, for the support and trust, for walking together and feeling that the project of fraternity that our Father entrusted to Jesus and his followers we try to live together", describes Marielo.

On this anniversary, ASCALA presents the book "ASCALA: 20 años cambiando historias de vida" (ASCALA: 20 years changing life stories), a tour of its history and a tribute to all the people who have made this work possible, especially those who are destined for this mission.
