 When we were children, in history textbooks we read atrocious and cruel accounts of slavery and servitude, massacres and genocides, racial apartheids and discrimination, heinous and systematic violations of human rights. In general, these past events aroused repulsion and rejection in us. Over time, as we evaluate the reality in which we live more critically, we realize that the contemporary world is not so different from the past. Today, perhaps, these heinous violations are a little more concealed or ideologically legitimized, but they are still present.
