US border police spray tear gas on families seeking asylum

At Tijuana, in Mexico, the agents of the state border patrols fired tear gas Sunday at a group of Central American asylum seekers while they were trying to cross the heavily militarized border with the United States. Among those attacked were madriots and small children. The Messican federal police in an anti-communist struggle have gone ahead and arrested ten migrants; according to the Messican government, they will be deported to Central America. The group was sparked by a peaceful protest by thousands of migrants who wanted to enter the United States, where they hoped to obtain asylum. The migrants, from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, are fleeing widespread violence, poverty and mass unemployment.

“My message to the president of the United States is not to scare people, because he is showing the Messiah that he has the military power,” said Saúl Hernández, 37, a private asylum seeker. “He is also encouraging the Messican people. Please renew your troupes”.

In response, the Trump administration has temporarily closed the San Ysidro border crossing, one of the most afflicted in the world, with more than 90,000 people who visit it every day. At the same time, the administration of the elected Messican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has denied having made any agreement with the Trump administration to allow asylum seekers to remain in Mexico, while their asylum requests from the United States are being rejected. The statement contradicts President Trump's tweet and a report by the Washington Post on Saturday.

On Tuesday, Trump tweeted: “The Messico should send migrants, many of whom are incarcerated criminals, to their countries. Fatelo in aereo, fatelo in autobus, fatelo as volete, ma non entreranno negli Stati Uniti. If necessary, we will close the border permanently. Congress, finance the wall”.

The President has called on the United States to investigate the use of tear gas on children. Speaking from Mississippi last night, Trump has for the second time condemned the use of tear gas and has blamed the parents of migrant children, suggesting that some people traveling with them are not tutors, but “grabbers” who use them to obtain asylum.
