Los Estudiantes Inmigrantes en la Escuela Secundaria - Integración y Desafíos - UNICEF

Desde una perspectiva de derechos humanos, las formas de incorporación social y económica de los inmigrantes en las sociedades de destino es una preocupación central. Desde hace unos años, la Argentina se encuentra transitando una etapa relevante en el proceso de reconocimiento de derechos hacia la población inmigrante. Una parte de los contingentes migratorios que llegan a la Argentina se compone de niños, niñas y adolescentes sobre cuya situación se tiene un escaso conocimiento. El informe de la Unicef, elaborado por Marcela Cerrutti y Georgina Binstock, analiza el comportamiento comparativo de los adolescentes inmigrantes y los argentinos en la escuela secundaria en la ciudad de Buenos Aires y el conurbano.

Migración Calificada en Salud, Impacto Financiero, Reconocimiento de Títulos: Retos y Perspectivas en los Países de la Región Andina - Organización Panamericana de Salud

La migración de personal de salud constituye un tema de preocupación creciente en la Región de las Américas, de grave impacto en el Caribe y en algunos países de América Central, y de incipientes pero amenazantes consecuencias en América del Sur. La migración está creando problemas para el funcionamiento de los sistemas de salud de países proveedores, siendo tema de discusión en foros internacionales que buscan modos efectivos para enfrentar la situación. Un factor principal está constituido por el reclutamiento internacional activo. Los países proveedores tienden a retener personal menos calificado y a reducir sus plantas ocasionando problemas de cobertura y accesibilidad y aumentando la carga de trabajo del personal que queda. Otra condición observada se relaciona con la subutilización y críticas condiciones de trabajo del personal de salud inmigrante en algunos países receptores alimentado por diversos factores personales, de adaptación y de legalidad.

The differential role of social networks - Strategies and routes in Brazilian migration to Portugal and the Netherlands

This paper draws on qualitative and quantitative data on the migration experiences of Brazilians living in Portugal and the Netherlands to reflect and expand upon the existing knowledge on the role of social networks in migration processes. We consider different migrant profiles based on principal migration motives to identify differentiated sociodemographic profiles and relate these to migration strategies. We show that differences in the ways migrants access and use social networks in their migration projects can be related to these different migration motives and profiles. Simultaneously, we compare two distinct immigration contexts both in terms of contemporary immigration regimes and working opportunities and historical links to Brazil.

O Guia das Migrações Transnacionais e Diversidade Cultural para Comunicadores – Migrantes no Brasil -, nasce de uma iniciativa conjunta de um grupo de pesquisadores brasileiros que atuam em diferentes universidades nacionais e internacionais.

Há alguns anos, esses pesquisadores vêm se dedicando a estudar diferentes aspectos das relações entre meios de comunicação e migrações, com a preocupação de fazer com que os resultados dessas pesquisas tenham repercussão na realidade das migrações.

Cadenas globales de cuidados - El papel de las migrantes nicaragüenses en la provisión de cuidados en Costa Rica

La migración femenina de Nicaragua hacia Costa Rica tiene su principal impacto en la cadena de cuidado familiar, advirtió el estudio presentado por la oficina local de ONU Mujeres y la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID).

El estudio revela que "las cadenas de cuidado recaen en las mujeres cuidadoras (abuelas y hermanas), no en las mujeres migrantes (madres), como suele suponerse en análisis que se centran en los ingresos provenientes de remesas".

Discharge, Deportation and Dangerous Journeys: A Study on the Practice of Medical Repatriation - New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI) and the Center for Social Justice (CSJ) at Seton Hall University

This report, a collaborative project of Seton Hall University School of Law’s Center for Social Justice (CSJ) and the Health Justice Program at New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI), utilizes a human rights framework to critique the widespread but barely publicized practice of forced or coerced medical repatriations of immigrant patients. Through this practice, private and public hospitals in the United States are engaged in unlawful, and frequently extrajudicial, deportations of ill or injured immigrant patients to medical facilities abroad, completely circumventing the federal government’s exclusive authority to deport individuals. While most medical repatriations occur in the shadows, there is enough information to establish that the U.S. is in systematic violation of its human rights obligations under a variety of treaties that the U.S. has signed and/or ratified. Overall, hospitals, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), journalists, and advocates have been able to document more than 800 cases of attempted or successful medical repatriations across the United States in the past six years.

El tráfico ilícito y la trata de mujeres dominicanas en el exterior - Realidades y Lineamientos de Políticas Públicas - 

Mujeres dominicanas involucradas en el comercio sexual han hecho presencia en al menos 66 de los países y territorios del mundo en las últimas 5 décadas, lo que convierte a la República Dominicana en una de las naciones que más aportan a este mercado conjuntamente con Tailandia, Filipinas y Brasil. El estudio incluye testimonios de 25 victimas de trata y tráfico, quienes compartieron sus experiencias aportando información cuantitativa y cualitativa, que fue comparada en algunos renglones con 450 casos más recogidos en otras investigaciones realizadas en la última década.

La situación de las personas refugiadas en España 2012 - Comisión Española de Ayuda al Refugiado (CEAR)

2011 ha sido al año de las revueltas del mundo árabe, de la hambruna en el Cuerno de África y del recrudecimiento del conflicto en Costa de Marfil, mientras por estas circunstancias, y otras muchas, la cifra de personas refugiadas en el mundo no deja de crecer. Y de nuevo son los países más empobrecidos y en vías de desarrollo los que soportan la responsabilidad de acoger a la inmensa mayoría de personas refugiadas del planeta.

Trafficking in human beings: European Commission

A total of 23.632 people were identified or presumed victims of trafficking in the EU over the 2008-2010 period. This is the most striking figure emerging from the first report on trafficking in human beings in Europe, published by the European Commission. The report also highlights that the number of people being trafficked in and to the EU increased by 18% from 2008 to 2010, but less traffickers end up behind bars, since convictions decreased by 13% over the same period.

Study on educational support for newly arrived migrant children - European Commission

Newly arrived migrant children are more likely to face segregation and end up in schools with fewer resources, according to a new study conducted for the European Commission. This leads to under-performance and a high probability that the children will drop out of school early. The study suggests that Member States should provide targeted educational support for migrant children such as specialist teachers and systematic involvement of parents and communities to improve their integration.

Tricked and Trapped: Human Trafficking in the Middle East - International Labour Organization

Based on more than 650 interviews conducted over a two-year period in Jordan Lebanon, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, the study sheds light on the situation of trafficked adult workers in the Middle East, the complex processes by which they are ‘tricked and trapped’ into forced labour and sexual exploitation, and the constraints that prevent them from leaving. It also examines the responses to human trafficking recently put in place by governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations and other stakeholders and provides regional policymakers with recommendations to help them effectively counter the phenomenon.

Access to health care in europe in times of crisis and rising xenophobia - An overview of the situation of people excluded from healthcare systems

2012 has been marked by a social and economic crisis that has generated austerity measures which are having an impact on social protection schemes, including healthcare services. At the same time, rising unemployment and poverty across Europe have generated extreme right statements stigmatising migrants. We have noticed a rise in xenophobic acts and regulations in Greece and in other European countries. Another effect of the increase in poverty is a rise in internal migration. EU citizens who are destitute and have no health coverage are considered in the same way as undocumented migrants from outside the EU if they need medical care.

Hidden talents, wasted talents? -The real cost of neglecting the positive contribution of migrants and ethnic minorities - European Network Against Racism

Europe is composed of immensely diverse people, whether migrants or natives. Each person is unique in his/her own right, with different skills, personalities, attributes, backgrounds, among other things, and each of these differences compiled is what gives Europe its spark, its competitive edge and creativity. All too often, however, the diversity of Europe is not always perceived in positive terms, but rather from a position of doom, of feeling threatened and/or insecure as a result of the many cultural, social, political and economic differences existing in Europe. As intercultural dialogue and efforts to promote and value diversity run counter to anti-immigrant rhetoric and fearful publics, immigration critics are held hostage by their xenophobic thinking. This results in the marginalisation of the foreign-born as well as EU citizens with a migrant background, or a “visible characteristic of difference”.

Fundamental rights at Europe’s southern sea borders - European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights

This report examines the conditions at Europe’s southern sea borders with respect to the most fundamental rights of a person, the right to life and the right not to be sent back to torture, persecution or inhuman treatment. It looks at sea border surveillance and disembarkation procedures, as well as training and Frontex-coordinated operations. It examines practices across the EU Member States researched – Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta and Spain.

Mexican Migration to the United States: Underlying Economic Factors and Possible Scenarios for Future Flows - Migration Policy Institute

Migratory flows from Mexico to the United States may increase in the coming years, but will never return to the record levels of earlier this century, the study presented by the Migration Policy Institute in Washington and the Bank of Mexico. Researchers have considered various factors affecting immigration, as the economic context of both countries, the demand for employment and security measures adopted by the United States, to determine the future flow of migration from Mexico to the north.

GENDER-RELATED ASYLUM CLAIMS IN EUROPE: Comparative Analysis of Law, Policies and Practice Focusing on Women in Nine EU Member States (France, Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Romania, Spain, Sweden and The United Kingdom)

Across the European Union women constitute on average one third of people who apply for asylum in their own right. The principle of the fair and consistent treatment of all individuals, including asylum seekers and refugees is enshrined in a range of international human rights mechanisms including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol (the Refugee Convention). European Union law obliges Member States to ensure equality between women and men and to gender-mainstream all policies within its competence (article 3). EU Member States therefore have a clear obligation both to respect asylum seekers’ human rights and not to discriminate between men and women.

Citizenship, Values, & Cultural Concerns: What Americans Want From Immigration Reform - Public Religion Research Institute

As the immigration debate in Washington heats up, more than 6-in-10 (63 percent) Americans agree that immigrants currently living in the country illegally should be allowed to become citizens provided they meet certain requirements, a new major survey finds.

Majorities of Democrats (71 percent), independents (64 percent) and Republicans (53 percent) support an earned path to citizenship, as do majorities of all religious groups, including Hispanic Catholics (74 percent), Hispanic Protestants (71 percent), black Protestants (70 percent), Jewish Americans (67 percent), Mormons (63 percent), white Catholics (62 percent), white mainline Protestants (61 percent) and white evangelical Protestants (56 percent).

Debido al endurecimiento de los controles fronterizos, Marruecos ya no es sólo un país de tránsito hacia Europa: es un destino forzado, lo que aumenta la vulnerabilidad de los migrantes. La aplicación de unas políticas migratorias que colisionan con el respeto a los derechos humanos tiene consecuencias en la salud de la población migrante, cuyos grupos más vulnerables, -como el de las víctimas de violencia sexual o de trata-, carecen de asistencia y protección adecuada.

Climate Change, Migration, and Conflict in the Amazon and the Andes - Center for American Progress

There are two caveats about this report. First, the study of climate change, migration, and conflict or insecurity in this region is more predictive in nature, compared to the earlier reports in this series. While many people in the region are experiencing profound dislocation or human insecurity because of the trends outlined in this report, the prospects for massive humanitarian disasters or country collapse are remote, unlike in Northwest Africa or the Bay of Bengal—topics of previous reports. Nonetheless, the trends are worrying and deserve the focused attention of policymakers in the Hemisphere.

Second, in line with the Climate, Migration, and Security Project, and driven by the evidence, this report is concerned with the periphery—the geographic and sociopolitical margins of the region. These peripheral regions or hinterlands are immense, far from the political and financial hubs of their countries and overwhelmingly rural with deeply entrenched poverty. Yet the pressures of population and global demand for commodities have driven the rapid growth of towns and cities on this periphery, cities that face the challenge of navigating a path of sustainable, stable development in difficult environments.

How free is free movement? Dynamics and drivers of mobility within the European Union - Migration Policy Institute

Free movement is at the heart of the European project. The right to work, study, live, and retire in another European Union (EU) Member State provides numerous social, cultural, and economic benefits for EU countries and citizens—from more efficient labour markets to increased cultural exchanges and educational opportunities. Yet the merits and impacts of intra-EU mobility continue to be debated especially since the last set of ‘transitional arrangements’—restrictions countries could place on workers from the newer Member States—are soon to expire. Meanwhile, scars left by the economic crisis leave commentators questioning how obstacles to free movement could be lifted to enable Europe’s labour markets to function more smoothly.

Relatório Nacional sobre Tráfico de Pessoas - Consolidação dos dados de 2005 a 2011

Entre 2005 e 2011 a Polícia Federal registrou 157 inquéritos por tráfico internacional de pessoas para fins de exploração sexual, enquanto que o  Poder Judiciário, segundo o Conselho Nacional de Justiça, teve 91 processos distribuídos. Os dados constam no primeiro relatório com a consolidação das informações existentes sobre o Tráfico de Pessoas no Brasil elaborado pela Secretaria Nacional de Justiça do Ministério da Justiça (SNJ/MJ), em parceria com o Escritório das Nações Unidas sobre Drogas e Crime (UNODC), revela que a Polícia Federal (PF).

Perfil Migratorio de Argentina 2012 - OIM

El perfil migratorio de la OIM para Argentina confirma que la migración hacia el país sudamericano está en aumento, incluyendo el regreso de algunos de sus nacionales en el extranjero.

El Perfil informa que hay unos 1,8 millones de inmigrantes que viven en la Argentina (4,5 por ciento de la población). Algunos 84,6 por ciento proceden de países vecinos, principalmente Paraguay (550.713), Bolivia (345.272), Chile (191.147) y Perú (157514).

Um guia sobre Enfrentamento ao Tráfico de Pessoas foi lançado pelo Ministério da Justiça. Com 148 páginas, o livro será distribuído em todos os estados que compõem a rede de Enfrentamento ao tráfico de Pessoas no Brasil. A tiragem inicial é de 1.000 exemplares.

A obra escrita pela equipe da Coordenação de Enfrentamento ao Tráfico de Pessoas tem apoio da União Européia. Dividida em quatro capítulos, o texto aborda os temas: migração, tráfico de pessoas, tráfico de pessoas no Brasil e estrutura para o enfrentamento a esse tipo de crime.

Amnistía Internacional presenta un nuevo informe: “Hay alternativas: No a la detención de las personas inmigrantes” en el que denuncia la detención generalizada e indiscriminada de inmigrantes en situación administrativa irregular sin tener en cuenta sus circunstancias personales y se les recluye hasta un máximo de 60 días en los Centros de Internamiento de Extranjeros (CIEs) como política de control migratorio.

A Dinâmica Migratória na Área Metropolitana de Brasília (AMB) entre 1991 e 2010 é o sexto volume da série Demografia em Foco do Núcleo de Estudos Populacionais, da Companhia de Planejamento do Distrito Federal (Codeplan). Este trabalho, que é parte do Projeto “Migrações Internas nos decênios 1990 e 2000 em UFs selecionadas: mudanças e continuidades” desenvolvido no âmbito do Acordo de Cooperação Técnica com o IPEA, foi realizado com base nos dados dos Censos Demográficos de 1991, 2000 e 2010.

A pesquisa, que aborda o fluxo migratório na Área Metropolitana de Brasília entre o Distrito Federal e os 11 municípios da sua periferia metropolitana, revela que o DF vem reduzindo forças na capacidade de atração e retenção populacional, provavelmente devido ao elevado custo de vida, principalmente, no que se refere à moradia.

Com mais de 10 milhões de habitantes, São Paulo possui uma ampla rede de serviços nas áreas de saúde, educação, trabalho, cultura e lazer que muitos desconhecem ou não sabem se podem (e como podem) usufruir. Além disso, é bastante comum que as pessoas que chegam à cidade não conheçam os seus direitos e deveres, conforme disposto nas leis e normas.

Flujos migratorios laborales intrarregionales: situación actual, retos y oportunidades en Centroamérica y República Dominicana - OIM

Centroamérica y República Dominicana han experimentado dinámicos flujos migratorios, impulsados por diversos factores, entre los que se cuentan los procesos de articulación a las economías globales, las políticas de libre movilidad establecidas mediante diversos instrumentos entre varios países y territorios de la región (el acuerdo CA-4 es un claro ejemplo) y la conformación histórica de comunidades transnacionales entre sociedades de origen y destino. Estos procesos se han intensificado por la conformación de mercados económicos caracterizados por dinámicas laborales en las que la participación de la fuerza de trabajo extranjera proveniente de otros países de la región ha sido una característica fundamental.

Caracterización de las nuevas corrientes migratorias en Uruguay. Inmigrantes y retornados: acceso a derechos económicos, sociales y culturales - OIM 

Abrir espacios de participación, promover la investigación para el conocimiento de la realidad, proponer nuevos diseños de política social, son nuestras tareas.

Es en esa línea de trabajo que promovimos este aporte: para aproximarnos a un diagnóstico certero centrado en la accesibilidad a los Derechos Económicos, Sociales y Culturales (DESC) en la población de inmigrantes recientes y emigrantes uruguayos hoy retornados.

Los objetivos generales que guiaron esta investigación de corte eminentemente cualitativo se resumen en: 1) realizar un diagnóstico de las formas de integración social de los nuevos flujos de inmigrantes y retornados, y 2) proponer un esquema de derivación de las personas migrantes y retornadas en situación de vulnerabilidad.

A new report spotlights Asia’s place in the global trade in human beings, with Ugandan women turning up as sex workers in Malaysia, and men from Southeast Asia ending up in South Africa and Latin America after months or even years on fishing boats. 
Counter-trafficking and Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants, newly released by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) shows that over half of the 2,700 trafficking victims assisted by IOM globally in 2011 were in Asia.

Três em cada quatro imigrantes de países fora da União Europeia em Portugal considera que ser alvo de discriminação em Portugal, sobretudo ocasionalmente, apesar de se sentir integrado a nível laboral. Esta é uma das conclusões do estudo "Diagnóstico da situação da população imigrante em Portugal: características, problemas e potencialidades".

Lives in Transition: Experiences of Migrants in Morocco and Algeria - Jesuit Refugee Service Europe

Morocco and Algeria have become the enforcers of an expanded European border, while countries like Spain and the EU at large wash their hands of responsibility for the detrimental impact these borders have on migrants. This was the conclusion of Teresa Alonso, director of Ceuta-based NGO Asociación Elín, at a Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Europe press conference to release the new report, Lives in Transition: Experiences of Migrants in Morocco and Algeria.

UNODC: Global Report on Trafficking in Persons 2012

The Global Report 2012 released by UNODC provides an overview of patterns and flows of trafficking in persons at global, regional and national levels, based on trafficking cases detected between 2007 and 2010 (or more recent). The report also includes a chapter on the worldwide response to trafficking in persons. The Country Profiles of the Global Report present a national level analysis for each of the 132 countries covered by this edition of the report.

Victims are trafficked around the world for sexual exploitation, forced labour, begging, petty crimes, removal of organs and for other exploitative purposes. Trafficking in persons is a truly global phenomenon: between 2007 and 2010, victims from at least 136 countries were detected in 118 countries worldwide. Because of this diffusion as well as the hidden nature of trafficking crimes, it is difficult to estimate the size of the problem.

Many countries have recently passed a legislation criminalizing trafficking in persons as a specific offence. However, definitions of human trafficking vary, as does the capacity to detect offenders and victims. Even though, there is a general increase in the number of prosecutions and convictions globally, the overall criminal justice response to trafficking in persons appears to remain very weak.

OIM: Panorama Migratorio de America del Sur 2012

En el presente informe se analizan un conjunto de dimensiones relacionadas con la situación actual de las migraciones internacionales en América del Sur. En primer lugar, se realiza un análisis de los patrones migratorios que tienen lugar en la región, considerando los principales aspectos que pudieron haber influido sobre los mismos y que determinaron los cambios o no producidos respecto de la situación dominante en décadas pasadas. En segundo lugar, se revisan diferentes temáticas migratorias que revisten cada vez mayor interés tanto para los formuladores de políticas como para los investigadores dedicados a la producción de conocimiento en el campo de las migraciones. En tercer lugar, se presentan los marcos normativo e institucional sobre las migraciones, establecidos en los países de la región, teniendo en cuenta las particularidades que brinda un escenario heterogéneo como es el sudamericano. En cuarto lugar, se repasan los principales avances logrados en materia migratoria en los procesos de integración regional, desarrollados a través de sus dos bloques, MERCOSUR y CAN, y en el proceso consultivo regional que se desarrolla en este subcontinente, la Conferencia Sudamericana sobre Migraciones. Por último, se esbozan algunas conclusiones y delinea una serie de problemáticas que habría que atender en los días venideros.

Home Economics - The Invisible and Unregulated World of Domestic Work

The study, which domestic workers helped to design, surveyed 2,086 nannies, caregivers and housecleaners around the United States who hail from 71 different countries. They were interviewed in nine languages about pay rates, contracts, working conditions, benefits and workplace abuses. Titled “Home Economics: The Invisible and Unregulated World of Domestic Work,” the report was presented at the Ford Foundation Building in New York City. Its aim is to bring domestic work “out of the closet,” to shine a light on the often-brutal conditions faced by this workforce consisting primarily of immigrant women and women of color.

Desperate Choices – conditions, risks & protection failures affecting ethiopian migrants in Yemen

Human rights abuses, killings, sexual violence, abductions and ransom demands, lack of jobs, discrimination in the workplace and widespread poverty and destitution are some of the many problems facing Ethiopian migrant’s en-route to, transiting through or intending to settle in Yemen, a research report by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and the Regional Mixed Migration Secretariat (RMMS) has uncovered.

The Least Developed Countries Report 2012 - Harnessing Remittances and Diaspora Knowledge to Build Productive Capacities - UNCTAD

The Least Developed Countries Report 2012 addresses the issues of remittance flows to LDCs and the potential role of diasporas in LDCs’ development. It argues that with the right policies and international support, LDCs could enhance the benefits from remittances and the knowledge and know-how accumulated in their diasporas. Using evidence and policy lessons from other countries, the report shows how LDCs could better harness remittances and diaspora knowledge to build their productive capacities.

O objetivo foi avançar no sentido de uma atuação integrada e abrir caminhos para a constituição de uma rede colaborativa dentro da área de conhecimento da mobilidade humana.

Listamos grupos de pesquisa e núcleos de estudos de pós-graduação, mestrado e doutorado em universidades públicas; organizações internacionais; organizações não-governamentais; entidades religiosas e pastorais; centros de apoio e acolhimento de imigrantes, refugiados e vítimas de tráfico de pessoas.

Impactos de la Crisis sobre la Población Inmigrante - OIM y Colectivo Ioé

La Organización Internacional para las Migraciones publica en su página web el informe del Colectivo Ioé “Impactos de la crisis sobre la población inmigrante en España”, que pone de manifiesto que las diferencias entre población inmigrante y autóctona en cuanto a empleo, ingresos y protección social se han incrementado desde el inicio de la crisis. El informe, elaborado a partir de una amplia variedad de fuentes oficiales, también revela un deterioro del clima de la opinión pública con respecto a la inmigración extranjera y el incremento de la preocupación entre entidades de solidaridad y de colectivos inmigrantes.

World Disasters Report 2012 - Focus on forced migration and displacement - International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies

The report analyses the complex causes of forced migration and its consequences and impacts on displaced populations, their hosts and humanitarian actors. It looks at the significant gaps in humanitarian protection for ever-increasing numbers of forced migrants who do not fit into conventional categories of protection, and the public health challenges caused by forced displacement, particularly for women, children and those with mental ill-health problems. It examines the ‘urbanization’ of forced migration, the role of climate change and environmental factors in forced displacement and how new communications, information and social networking technologies are reshaping the links between aid providers and migrants. It also tracks humanitarian funding for forcibly displaced populations, as well as the positive and negative economic impacts they have on host communities and countries.

OIM - Rutas y dinámicas migratorias entre los países de América Latina y el Caribe (ALC), y entre ALC y la Unión Europea

El estudio "Rutas y dinámicas migratorias entre los países de América Latina y el Caribe (ALC), y entre ALC y la Unión Europea" pretende brindar los elementos cuantitativos y cualitativos  necesarios para nutrir el debate entre los gobiernos ALC y UE así como entre las dos regiones. Para ello, este presenta la información relevante y actual necesaria para abordar la temática migración y desarrollo de una manera realista y precisa. A través de la consulta y del análisis sistemático de varias bases de datos y de una revisión de la literatura existente, se han identificado los principales flujos de una región a otra y algunas de sus características. La información presentada en este estudio busca servir como referencia primaria y útil para facilitar la comprensión de las dinámicas migratorias entre las regiones ALC y UE.

La Trata de Seres Humanos en España - Víctimas Invisibles

Hate on the Streets - Xenophobic Violence in Greece

The 99-page report documents the failure of the police and the judiciary to prevent and punish rising attacks on migrants. Despite clear patterns to the violence and evidence that it is increasing, the police have failed to respond effectively to protect victims and hold perpetrators to account, Human Rights Watch found. Authorities have yet to develop a preventive policing strategy, while victims are discouraged from filing official complaints. No one has been convicted under Greece’s 2008 hate crime statute.

The financial crisis of 2008 started with the collapse of the financial sector in the United States and Western Europe, then quickly spread to countries around the globe. At a time when migrants travel from south to north and east to west (as well as south to south), it was critical to ask what the impact of the crisis was and is, not just for developing countries, but for the migrants who hail from them. For many developing countries, migrant remittances were and are central to economic well-being—not just for the nation, but for its citizens as well.

Migrant Integration Policy Index III

The Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) is a reference guide and fully interactive tool to assess, compare and improve integration policy. It measures integration policies in 31 countries in Europe and North America. Using 148 policy indicators the MIPEX creates a rich, multidimensional picture of migrants’ opportunities to participate in society by assessing governments’ commitment to integration. By measuring policies and their implementation it reveals whether all residents are guaranteed equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities.

Inter-American Dialogue - Future Trends in Remittances to Latin America and the Caribbean

Amidst global financial turmoil and low economic growth in Latin America, remittances to the region have increased by 8 percent from 2010 to 2011. In particular, remittances improved to US$69 billion in 2011, predominantly in Mexico, Colombia and Central America. The report cited new factors explaining the rising remittance levels in Latin America and emerging patterns in migration  that are likely to shape future flows of remittances.

Amnesty International - S.O.S. Europe: Human Rights and Migration Control - 2012

Last year, at least 1,500 men, women and children drowned in the Mediterranean struggling to reach Europe. Some of these deaths were avoidable. Delayed rescue costs lives. In recent years, some survivors have been forced back to countries where they faced abuse and ill-treatment. On several occasions Italy pushed back people to Libya where they were detained and mistreated. In an environment where there is little transparency or oversight, human rights abuses often go unpunished along Europe’s coasts and borders.

Trafficking in Persons Report - 2012 - Department of State - USA

O documento Trafficking in Persons Report, lançando em junho de 2012, avaliou a atuação dos governos de diversos países nos processos judiciais do crime do tráfico de pessoas, no estabelecimento de sistemas de ação, assim como na ajuda às vítimas. Segundo a publicação do Departamento de Estado Norte Americano, dos 185 países analisados, apenas 33 cumprem plenamente com as leis internacionais para combater o tráfico humano – incluindo a Declaração Universal dos Direitos Humanos, que proíbe a escravidão e a servidão involuntária.

Simpósio Internacional para o Enfrentamento ao Tráfico de Pessoas - Carta de Goiânia

Em maio de 2012 aconteceu o Simpósio Internacional para o Enfrentamento ao Tráfico de Pessoas, organizado pelo Conselho Nacional de Justiça e Tribunal de Justiça do Estado de Goiás. O Evento o intuito de implementar o Plano Nacional de Enfrentamento ao Tráfico de Pessoas, que busca prevenir e reprimir as ações criminosas, bem como responsabilizar os autores e garantir atenção às vítimas. Nesse sentido, as entidades participantes no evento firmaram um compromisso de atuação em conjunto, de acordo com suas específicas áreas de atuação, o qual encontra-se formalizado na Carta de Goiânia.
